Life update!

I’m leaving my beloved hometown, Korea, this Sunday.

For the next two years (estimated), I’ll be staying in the United States. Hopefully I’ll have a great experience I will never forget during my stay.

It’s a huge step for me — and I really appreciate your support nonetheless! I’ll be posting a lot on my Instagram, so feel free to follow me and keep in touch!

Of course, I’ll try my best to continue on working on music as well. Thanks everyone, I’ll see you soon!

Hey guys! Got some exciting news. I was involved in this amazing short film “Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening,” as a cinematographer, editor, and colorist! The biggest thing is it’s now live on YouTube so you can watch it! Make sure you check them out!

It’s my very first film as a cinematographer, as well as getting involved in a larger crew member! I had so much fun making it, as well as faced some very new challenges. But thanks to the director Andrew, my fellow crew members and friends, actors, and the support from professors, I was able to finish this great work of film. Please check it out and support us!

My track “Scars of War” was used and took part in the OUTSTANDING World Taekwondo Demonstration Team on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent”! (Played from 2:14-2:49). This is special for me as a native Korean and someone who once learned Taekwondo (I still have that rusty black belt in the corner) hahaha. They also got the golden buzzer, which is EXTRA amazing!

Please check them out!

Hey Newgrounds, fans, friends, and NG users.

I want to address this important news that I'm officially stepping away from making music. This means I won't be participating 99.9% of future projects, and I won't be releasing any more public tracks. The reason I'm making this decision is because of my continuous stress and lack of motivation genuinely as an individual artist to strive for my passion. Ever since I had to overwork on so many tracks with zero fun and passion, making music is not the same for me anymore. So I've decided to let go and take some time to heal and rebuild my own sense of thoughts and creative mind. I'm feeling good about these decisions, and I do have a good feeling I'll be coming back as a composer sometime again. But until then, I'll be always preparing a place for the return, and focus on something else I want to learn more, and expand.

Before I step out though, I want to say thank you to you, Newgrounds. You wouldn't know how much you have supported me and helped me to become the person I am today. You gave me passion and dreams as a composer -- to heal and help people with music. You proved to me that I can do something better than I thought I would be. You were my first push, the first motivation to start my career as a composer (voice actor, too). And you connected me with very first creative friends, fans, and so many people across the world.

To fans and friends, thank you so much for supporting through my incredible journey for the past few years. Since from my High School years, I've never felt happier to share my work with you, get inspired together, and feel connected. I always considered myself outsider in class -- as I never felt a lot of connection with my classmates and others. But you guys made that with me. Without ya'll, I wouldn't have been filled with so many good memories during my High School years, and even until now. You guys widened up my eyes for the bigger world, diverse culture with so many stories to tell. Thank you, and thank you.

I hate to say goodbye to Newgrounds as a composer -- but I'm always open for something else, like drawing, writing scripts, filming, voice acting (although i don't do it anymore) and so on. If you'd want me to participate in your fun project for any of these roles, please reach out to me. I'm happy to consider your projects to continue on my creative journey.

Thank you so much all for reading this long post -- and hope you're safe.

Best,

Jessie

My newest and yet the most fresh release I ever made, "Stormcaller" is out NOW! It was my very strong take to break down the unstoppable art block barriers that stood in front of me for the past 5 months.

I called in an EDM artist named Thunder Cat (who is also me) to collab -- with myself -- in mixing epic pirate music with a massive progressive house genre. I had so much fun making this, which I really wanted to feel this after such a LONG waiting. Hope everyone enjoys this, and please let me know if you want more of these kind of stuff xD

Hey Newgrounds,

I CAN’T believe I’m going to come back with a new release! It’s been quite a rough 5 months of art block to get through. But now, finally, I have decided to self collab with my other artist Thunder Cat (!!!) presenting you the epic mix of my main and novice genre. Coming soon, please stay tuned!

P.S. For the long-time well known friends and fellow composers out there, do share me your tracks in DM (either in Discord or NG) — I want to catch up on your tracks and achievements! @AceMantra @AlbeGian @Troisynx @Everratic @etheralwinds @littlemusicboy @NahuPyrope @Zelgeon @ShockblastDeluxe @siteml @SplatterDash

Long writing. Sorry.

I went to see a psychiatrist on Monday. I had enough of myself.

5 months of continuing depressive thoughts, and I was swirling into the rabbit hole of me quitting music for good. It was very unhealthy to me and my loved ones of seeing myself laying on bed, crying all day of how bad I am at making music, and I can't seem to work on anything.

I had to spoil all of my depressive thoughts to my family, friends, and my beloved boyfriend -- it was mentally draining for me, as the cycle repeated. My SO, who are working with me on a project (NDA, can't tell yet) was the first person to drain with me. I totally get it -- depression is contagious. It's especially harmful if the individual is your partner. I felt awful seeing him draining as well.

That's when I realized I need to solve this problem and decided to see a doctor. I first thought I was going to be diagnosed as a depression. Unsurprisingly (according to my mother), I was completely normal. My brain activity, my stress level, and my heart was all healthy. The doctor also mentioned that it's just a process of me becoming from an amateur to a professional composer. It's always hectic and easily drained when money and time limit kicks in. It also gave me quite an encouragement when he told me that creating something is very difficult, and there are a lot of composers, writers, celebrities, singers, and artists visit the hospital every once in a while with similar issues...

I first didn't believe the result, that my feelings are completely normal, and I was just over-exaggerating myself (that's my personality). There was nothing wrong with me. It's just a natural process of becoming something better, and I didn't had to beat down myself about it at all. Most of all, I don't even need to worry about making music for a living, or worry about ending up in the streets in the future (Yes, common concerns for early 20s). I just need to return that loosened passion and relaxed creative mind.

I still need to take some more tests and go to the hospital once in a while to get more checks, but I had no medication requirement. I really don't think I need medication at all, too. All I need is for me to know more about myself, and know that I'm not alone on this boat. My artblock also hasn't gone out yet completely, but I'm capable to work on some scraps of ideas for my current works. I'll let people (who are required to) know when I completely break the wall.

TL;DR: Going to psychiatrist was an excellent choice. Learning about what I think, and accepting the change and obstacles really gave me a breath of fresh air.

Hey Newgrounds!

Hope your day is going safe and sound.

I'm super excited to announce that I have scored a brand-new release of Herobrine Origins Franchise from EliteProductions -- Herobrine Origins Part IV! It's a 2-hour long feature Minecraft Machinima film, and has been awaited by a lot of fans over the years.

It was a 2-month long intensive work, with slumps, errors, trials, and a chance to experience. I'm glad I was able to finish the score on time, without any particular issues that might have affected the entire movie.

With that said, here's the film : https://youtu.be/Rsb1hhCZLTM

And here's the soundtrack released in Bandcamp so far : https://jessie-yun.bandcamp.com/album/herobrine-origins-part-iv-original-motion-picture-soundtrack

This will be released in stores (Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, etc.) soon!

Hope ya'll like it, and this will be my last public track released this year.

I'll see you in 2021!

Best,

Jessie
