JessieYun's News

Long writing. Sorry.

I went to see a psychiatrist on Monday. I had enough of myself.

5 months of continuing depressive thoughts, and I was swirling into the rabbit hole of me quitting music for good. It was very unhealthy to me and my loved ones of seeing myself laying on bed, crying all day of how bad I am at making music, and I can't seem to work on anything.

I had to spoil all of my depressive thoughts to my family, friends, and my beloved boyfriend -- it was mentally draining for me, as the cycle repeated. My SO, who are working with me on a project (NDA, can't tell yet) was the first person to drain with me. I totally get it -- depression is contagious. It's especially harmful if the individual is your partner. I felt awful seeing him draining as well.

That's when I realized I need to solve this problem and decided to see a doctor. I first thought I was going to be diagnosed as a depression. Unsurprisingly (according to my mother), I was completely normal. My brain activity, my stress level, and my heart was all healthy. The doctor also mentioned that it's just a process of me becoming from an amateur to a professional composer. It's always hectic and easily drained when money and time limit kicks in. It also gave me quite an encouragement when he told me that creating something is very difficult, and there are a lot of composers, writers, celebrities, singers, and artists visit the hospital every once in a while with similar issues...

I first didn't believe the result, that my feelings are completely normal, and I was just over-exaggerating myself (that's my personality). There was nothing wrong with me. It's just a natural process of becoming something better, and I didn't had to beat down myself about it at all. Most of all, I don't even need to worry about making music for a living, or worry about ending up in the streets in the future (Yes, common concerns for early 20s). I just need to return that loosened passion and relaxed creative mind.

I still need to take some more tests and go to the hospital once in a while to get more checks, but I had no medication requirement. I really don't think I need medication at all, too. All I need is for me to know more about myself, and know that I'm not alone on this boat. My artblock also hasn't gone out yet completely, but I'm capable to work on some scraps of ideas for my current works. I'll let people (who are required to) know when I completely break the wall.

TL;DR: Going to psychiatrist was an excellent choice. Learning about what I think, and accepting the change and obstacles really gave me a breath of fresh air.

Hey Newgrounds!

Hope your day is going safe and sound.

I'm super excited to announce that I have scored a brand-new release of Herobrine Origins Franchise from EliteProductions -- Herobrine Origins Part IV! It's a 2-hour long feature Minecraft Machinima film, and has been awaited by a lot of fans over the years.

It was a 2-month long intensive work, with slumps, errors, trials, and a chance to experience. I'm glad I was able to finish the score on time, without any particular issues that might have affected the entire movie.

With that said, here's the film : https://youtu.be/Rsb1hhCZLTM

And here's the soundtrack released in Bandcamp so far : https://jessie-yun.bandcamp.com/album/herobrine-origins-part-iv-original-motion-picture-soundtrack

This will be released in stores (Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, etc.) soon!

Hope ya'll like it, and this will be my last public track released this year.

I'll see you in 2021!

Best,

Jessie

Hey Newgrounds!

It's been such a long time since I posted my last news of my first EMW promo release, and so many things happened over the past six months. I would love to share what I've been doing and what I'm expecting to do this summer with two categories : Music and Life!

Bear with me, this is gonna be a long post.

= MUSIC =

A. Music Industry (Gothic Storm & Twin Flame Music)

iu_130665_5435639.jpg

It's been an amazing experience working the 12-track adventure/fantasy trailer album for Gothic Storm Music with my amazing co-worker, partner, and lovely boyfriend, @sJLsMusic (he's really talented, go check him out)! As a Twin Flame Music crew, we spent total 6 months in the works, alongside with live string recordings. It was challenging working on live recordings due to COVID-19, but we finally managed to finish it and release it in the industry.

It really gave me an experience of how efficient the composers should be in the libraries like this, since we literally had to compose 1 track per 3 days! It was very tough trying to squeeze our creative juice in less than 2 months, but it was worth a try! And of course, the result is really good.

If you want to take a listen to it, click this link and it will teleport to you!

B. Film Scoring (EliteProductions)

iu_130664_5435639.jpg

Last year I got a call from Will, the director of EliteProductions, to score for Herobrine Origins Part IV. Since this film was pretty special (as it's really expected from the fans), and since I needed more experience in film scoring, I said yes. And until now, I have written themes (which could be temporary) and some cues, but otherwise I'm in the waiting process. I can't explain more further, but hopefully I'll be able to soon!

Oh and also, I'm still pretty proud of Origins : Generations score, although it's pretty cliché. The director loved it too. And presently, I received Best Original Score from the Minecraft Machinima Awards last year with it. Quite an achievement for me!

C. Public Releases

You might have realized I've been keep uploading releases from time to time, but not much. I've been busy for quite some time during the past 3 months due to college and of course, Gothic Storm. Though, I'm still working on for personal public releases! Hopefully this summer vacation I can devote more time on music, and I'm super in the zone for the groove to move on.

Oh btw, I'm releasing a new track called "Wings" tonight (KST), if anyone is interested to join in the premiere. And of course, it will be released on Newgrounds too.

iu_130663_5435639.jpg

= LIFE =

It's never been busy! Last year was a blast with over 40 promotional channel uploads from a lot of tracks, working on Gothic Storm Music project, college as well. Moreover, I was able to have a wonderful experience with a Sewol Ferry Disaster tribute album "Farewell to the Souls", that I created with 7 talented composers and a cellist. The full list with credits are in this main video! The individual 7 composers (including me) did an excellent job, as well as Sami who mixed & mastered them all with masterful skills! The full story about this production & backstory is in this article.

I've started studying screenwriting this semester, and I'm having a blast writing the script. My goal is to finish 120 pages (so complete script) this year, and maybe send it to contests next year after revisions & polishing! If anyone is interested to hear more about my script, just let me know in the comments.

I also have a boyfriend now (as you already read)! We already passed 100 days, and we are having such a blast although COVID-19 stopped us from meeting together at the airport this month. We are doing our best to keep us from corona blues and live a happy life. Love you, sweetheart!

Oh btw, he only has 22 followers which is totally underrated, he deserves some more recognition!

= WHAT'S NEXT? =

Well, there's tons of stuff that I need to do. Vacation is coming up so I'm ready to chillax, buy some more face masks, sanitizers, and make some more music and stuff. Oh yeah, script too. In July and August, I'll be most likely busy working on film scoring since the film itself is estimated to be 2 hours long. I also might face a huge change in July where I get to determine if I really want to make music as a professional career. It's gonna be the summer of thoughts, feelings, love, and hope! (as long as COVID-19 don't destroy mankind)

I would love to update you all about this, and hopefully you'll join along this journey with me. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions.

Ta ta, for now! Stay safe!

Hey Newgrounds peeps,

I'm having such a dramatic month, so many promotional channels around YouTube promoted my recent track, 'Soar Again'! These are the complete list of the channels.

UPDATE : My very first hybrid trailer music, "Scars of War" has been promoted on Premium Music HQ. This is incredible for me.

Here are more list of channels who promoted my other music:

I'm just really, really glad people are enjoying my tracks so far. I also released "The Spirit of Adventure" here very recently, which is kinda like a follow-up to "Soar Again", but much more adventure vibe and cuteness! I really hope you enjoy that track as well. Hoping for the best!

It's been quite hard to keep myself from sharing this news with everyone for the last few weeks. EliteProductions has officially announced yesterday that I will be part of their last journey in producing the last film of the Herobrine Origins Franchise, "Herobrine Origins Part IV". It's the film that a lot of fans have been anticipating since 2016, and I know this will be a grand finale for everyone. As part of the crew, I will do my best in working with the director to give the fans the best memorable experience they can have from this film among the other franchise films.

Once again, I'm very honored to be part of this project, and I can't wait to start working on this.

P.S.

Oh wait, if you want to communicate with me much more or get some latest updates, you can visit my Discord Channel! I have two channels, one is for general updates and the other is for music. Pick whatever you like, I don't mind. But I'd prefer music, that's a lot more cleaner one. And besides, general one doesn't work.

Greetings, NG Citizens!

I need your help.

As some of you already know, I've been composing for more than 2-3 years, currently working on an upcoming horror live-action film in EliteProductions (I already composed for the film LICK as well!), as well as other small projects at hand. Recently, my works have been promoted in various epic music promotional channels, such as EMC and EMW. And I'm still working on it.

But, there are some obstacles for me. I am currently a student with no proper paid work, and I'll have to pay my small current bills to other necessary tools & projects I would need. Currently I only have a single small laptop without any keyboard while creating the tracks. I really need support to buy more enhanced new equipment and software to compose more advanced music. If you are willing to join my musical family & help me produce more emotional/epic scores for everyone to enjoy, please don't hesitate to become a Patreon.

I greatly appreciate any support you give, whether it is big or small. I will stay motivated, not remaining alone in my music composing path — and will always remember that there are people who share the same goal with me.

If you don't want to become a Patreon but still want to support me, feel free to donate me anytime via PayPal, or buy me the First Step album. Every penny will help me a lot.
